Kota Doria is woven in and around Kaithoon in Rajasthan on pit looms, alternating fine cotton and silk yarns in both warp and weft so that the cloth forms a grid of tiny transparent squares known as khats. Onion juice and rice paste are traditionally applied to the yarn to give it strength during weaving, which is why a fabric this open still holds its shape. The result is exceptionally light, cool against the skin, and slightly crisp, with a natural sheen from the silk. Zari can be introduced along the border or as a fine stripe.
