Fabric Overview

Kalamkari — literally 'pen-work' — is a South Indian tradition split between two schools: Srikalahasti, where the artist draws every line freehand with a tamarind-twig pen, and Machilipatnam, where hand blocks are combined with drawn detail. Colour is fixed with buffalo-milk myrobalan treatments and layered in iron, alum and vegetable dye baths. Ours are worked on cotton, silk and cotton-silk blends. Because each length is drawn, no two repeats are identical, and every piece carries a maker's rhythm.
