Fabric Overview

Hand painted fabric is developed with studio artists who work directly on the stretched length with brush, pen and dye rather than through a block or a screen. Because there is no printing plate, artwork is not bound to a repeat: a motif can be placed on a saree pallu, run along a border, or scale across a panel exactly where the garment needs it. We work primarily on silk, silk-cotton, modal and fine cotton, using acid and pigment colours fixed by steam. Turnaround is longer than print and quantities are deliberately small — this is a technique for signature pieces and limited runs.
