Khadi is defined by process rather than fibre: the yarn is spun by hand on a charkha and then woven on a handloom, which is why the cloth carries visible thick-and-thin variation across its surface. That irregularity traps air, so khadi stays cooler in heat and warmer in cold than a mill-spun equivalent of the same weight. We source cotton khadi in mul, medium and heavy counts, along with khadi silk and khadi cotton-silk. It takes natural and reactive dye deeply, softens with every wash, and is well suited to block printing where a slightly absorbent ground is wanted.
